OR1AA1P is a human olfactory receptor pseudogene, classified within the large superfamily of olfactory receptor genes. While functional olfactory receptor genes code for G protein-coupled receptors that bind odorants in the olfactory epithelium, triggering smell perception, OR1AA1P itself is non-functional due to mutations that disable protein coding [2][5]. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes are common in humans and represent evolutionary remnants of once-functional genes. They typically lack protein coding capacity and have no established role in odor detection or disease [2]. There is no evidence of its translation into protein or participation in physiological or pathological pathways in humans. Although rare cases exist in some non-human species (such as Drosophila) where so-called "pseudo-pseudogenes" can be functionally expressed through translational readthrough[4][6][7], this phenomenon has not been described for human OR1AA1P. In humans, OR1AA1P remains a non-coding sequence with no known function or therapeutic relevance.
