Olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily F member 1 (OR1F1)

Target
OR1F1
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Receptor, Transducer

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily F member 1 (OR1F1) is a human G protein-coupled receptor involved in the detection of odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, initiating neuronal signals that result in the perception of smell. The protein contains seven transmembrane domains, typical of the rhodopsin-like GPCR superfamily, and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome. Recognition and transduction of odorant signals by olfactory receptors are mediated via G protein signaling that leads to changes in neuronal activity

Mechanism of action

Not applicable for drugs; naturally, it binds odorant molecules leading to activation of intracellular signaling cascades through G protein-coupled transduction (adenylate cyclase/cAMP cascade triggers neuronal response)
