Overview

Olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily L member 4 (OR1L4) is a member of the large olfactory receptor gene family that encodes G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose and initiation of neuronal responses that trigger the perception of smell. OR1L4 shares the canonical seven-transmembrane domain architecture characteristic of GPCRs. Like other olfactory receptors, it arises from a single coding-exon gene and is involved in the G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. Olfactory receptors collectively constitute the largest family of genes in the human genome. While OR1L4 is implicated in the olfactory signaling pathway, it does not have characterized therapeutic targeting or direct links to specific human diseases, and there are no known clinical drugs that target this receptor[2][1].
