Olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily L member 8 (OR1L8) is a protein-coding gene in humans encoding an olfactory receptor, a member of the large G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily[1][2][3][4]. These receptors are found in the nasal olfactory epithelium and are responsible for detecting odorant molecules, initiating neuronal responses that lead to the perception of smell[1][2][3][4]. OR1L8, like other olfactory receptors, shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure characteristic of GPCRs[1][2][3]. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome[1][2][3]. While OR1L8 itself is not a therapeutic or diagnostic target, the general olfactory receptor family is critical for olfaction and may have broader physiological roles, but there is no direct implication of OR1L8 in major diseases or drug development[3][6].
