Olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily M member 1 encodes an odorant GPCR expressed in the nasal olfactory epithelium, where it interacts with airborne odorant molecules to initiate neuronal responses resulting in the perception of smell[2][6]. Like other GPCRs, it consists of a seven-transmembrane domain and transduces signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome and features single coding-exon genes. While primarily involved in olfaction, emerging evidence suggests olfactory receptors may also be expressed in other tissues and could play nonolfactory physiological roles[1]. No established therapeutic or diagnostic uses for OR1M1 exist, and it is not a routine drug target[2][3][6].
