Olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily N member 1 (OR1N1) is a member of the large family of human olfactory receptors, which are integral membrane proteins belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. These receptors contain a characteristic structure of seven transmembrane alpha helices and are expressed in the olfactory epithelium, where they interact with small, volatile odorant molecules to initiate olfactory signal transduction via G protein-mediated pathways[1]. Each olfactory receptor is capable of binding a subset of odorants, contributing to the combinatorial encoding of smells. There is little direct evidence that OR1N1 is involved in human disease or that it serves as a drug target.
