Overview

Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily A member 2 (OR10A2) is a human protein coded by the OR10A2 gene and is part of the large olfactory receptor family, which is a subset of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). These receptors are located in the nasal epithelium and are responsible for detecting odorants, which initiates a neuronal response leading to the perception of smell. All olfactory receptors have a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure and function via G protein-mediated signal transduction. OR10A2 has no documented roles in disease, therapy, or drug interaction, but variation in its genetic sequence is associated with individual differences in sensitivity to certain odors, such as those characteristic of cilantro
