Target intelligence / Profile preview
Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily A member 4 (OR10A4) is a human protein-coding gene that encodes a member of the olfactory receptor family, the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in the genome. These receptors are characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure, shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and their primary function is to recognize odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response necessary for the perception of smell. While some olfactory receptors are being studied for roles outside the olfactory system, including in the brain and other organs, there is currently no evidence that OR10A4 is considered a therapeutic target, nor is it implicated in disease states or targeted by approved drugs. The gene is also known by a range of aliases, including OR10A4P (pseudogene designation), JCG5, HP2, and hP2 olfactory receptor. OR10A4 has canonical functions in olfactory signal transduction mediated by G protein activation and is part of the rhodopsin-like class of GPCRs.
None established (no known drugs target this receptor; general mechanism for the family is G protein-mediated odorant signal transduction)
