Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily A member 5 (OR10A5) is a protein coding gene encoding a member of the olfactory receptor family, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure[1][5][6][7]. OR10A5 is expressed in the nasal olfactory epithelium, where it binds to odorant molecules to initiate a neuronal response, resulting in the perception of smell[1][5]. Olfactory receptors comprise the largest gene family in the human genome and have high sequence diversity, allowing the detection of a wide range of chemical odors[1][5][3]. Recently, olfactory receptors including OR10A5 have also been detected in nonolfactory tissues and may have uncharacterized physiological functions beyond smell[3]. OR10A5 is not currently considered a conventional drug target, and there are no approved drugs directed against it.
