Overview

Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily D member 5 pseudogene (OR10D5P) is a non-functional DNA sequence derived from the olfactory receptor gene family. Olfactory receptors are typically responsible for detecting and transducing odorant signals via G protein-coupled receptor activity, but OR10D5P has accumulated mutations that prevent it from encoding an active olfactory receptor protein. The presence of many olfactory receptor pseudogenes in the human genome reflects evolutionary processes where certain olfactory functions become redundant or are lost. OR10D5P is annotated in several genomic databases, but it is not expressed as a protein, does not participate in biological signaling, and is not a therapeutic or diagnostic target.
