Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily G member 1 pseudogene (OR10G1P) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene superfamily in humans, representing a genomic locus that has lost its protein-coding function due to inactivating mutations, such as premature stop codons or frameshifts. While canonical olfactory receptors are part of the G protein-coupled receptor family and mediate odor detection in the olfactory epithelium by interacting with odorant molecules, pseudogenes like OR10G1P do not produce functional proteins and thus do not participate in signal transduction or sensory perception. The human genome contains a high proportion of olfactory receptor pseudogenes, reflecting both evolutionary pressures and diminished reliance on olfaction. OR10G1P is not implicated in disease, drug interaction, or biomarker use, and serves primarily as a marker of genetic variation and evolutionary gene loss in the olfactory system.
