Overview

Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily G member 4 (OR10G4) is a human G protein-coupled receptor involved in olfactory signal transduction. It detects specific odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, most notably guaiacol (a “smoky” odor), initiating neuronal responses that lead to the perception of smell. OR10G4, like other olfactory receptors, belongs to the large family of single-exon genes that encode proteins with a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure. Functional genetic variations in OR10G4 can significantly influence individual differences in odor intensity and pleasantness perceptions for certain ligands, such as guaiacol. OR10G4 is not known to be a therapeutic drug target and currently has no established role in major diseases outside of sensory perception.
