Overview

Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily G member 6 (OR10G6) is a human protein encoded by the OR10G6 gene and belongs to the large family of olfactory receptors primarily responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, initiating neuronal responses that enable olfaction. Like all olfactory receptors, OR10G6 is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) with a canonical seven transmembrane domain architecture. These receptors are encoded by single coding-exon genes and represent the largest gene family in the human genome. While their main function is to mediate the sense of smell, emerging research suggests that some olfactory receptors may have functions in nonolfactory tissues, though the role of OR10G6 outside olfaction is not clearly defined. OR10G6 does not have identified drugs targeting it, nor is it established as a disease biomarker or clinical therapeutic target at present.
