Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily G member 9 (OR10G9) is a seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed in the olfactory epithelium of the human nose. It binds odorant (smell) molecules, activating a G protein signaling cascade that ultimately leads to neuronal signaling and conscious perception of smells. Olfactory receptors like OR10G9 are encoded by single exon genes; they compose the largest gene family in the human genome and share structural features with other GPCRs involved in signal transduction. There is no evidence that OR10G9 is targeted by any therapeutic drug or is involved in non-olfactory disease processes.
