Overview

Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily H member 2 (OR10H2) is a protein encoded by the OR10H2 gene in humans. OR10H2 belongs to the largest gene family in the human genome, the olfactory receptor gene family. These receptors, including OR10H2, are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that share a seven-transmembrane domain structure common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. OR10H2 interacts with odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium and triggers a neuronal response that gives rise to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors mediate G protein-dependent signaling pathways that translate chemical signals from odorants into electrical signals in neurons. While recent research has identified non-olfactory functions for some olfactory receptors in tissues such as the brain and pancreas, there is currently no direct evidence for extranasal biological roles or disease associations for OR10H2.

Mechanism of action

No known mechanism of pharmacological action, due to lack of approved or investigational drugs targeting OR10H2.

03

Biological functions

Signal transduction (odorant signal recognition and transmission)Sensory perception of smellPossibly involved in extranasal physiological processes (research indicates some olfactory receptors may have broader roles, but specific non-olfactory functions for OR10H2 are not documented)
04

Disease associations

Other (No documented direct roles in major diseases; research on olfactory receptor dysfunctions suggests possible implications in neurological disorders and other diseases, but no disease associations specific to OR10H2 have been reported)
