Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily J member 1 (OR10J1) is a human protein encoded by the OR10J1 gene. This receptor is a member of the large olfactory receptor family, which belong to the Class A (rhodopsin-like) G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and are characterized by their seven-transmembrane domain structure[1][2][3][7][8]. OR10J1 is involved in the detection of specific odorant molecules in the nose, initiating G protein-mediated signal transduction that leads to the perception of smell[1][2][3]. The gene is expressed in olfactory tissues and, as recently characterized, is also found in human spermatozoa, where its activation (by the ligand dimetol) evokes intracellular calcium signals, implying potential roles beyond traditional olfaction[5]. While olfactory receptors as a family are critical for olfaction and may play roles in diverse physiological processes, there is no evidence for recognized therapeutic applications or significant disease association for OR10J1 specifically.
