Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily J member 3 (OR10J3) is a member of the largest gene family in the human genome, the olfactory receptors, which function as G protein-coupled receptors mediating the detection of odorants in the nose and initiating the neuronal response responsible for smell perception[1][3][12]. Like other olfactory receptors, it has a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many hormone and neurotransmitter receptors[1]. In humans, the OR10J3 gene is frequently annotated as a pseudogene because of truncation or loss of protein function in certain species or individuals[3].
