Overview

Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily Q member 1 (OR10Q1) is a protein encoded by the OR10Q1 gene in humans. It is an olfactory receptor—part of the largest family in the human genome—that enables the detection of odorant molecules within the nasal cavity, triggering neuronal responses responsible for the sensation of smell. As a member of the GPCR family, it has a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure and mediates signal transduction through G protein activation. Olfactory receptors like OR10Q1 are expressed in sensory neurons and use a combinatorial code to detect tens of thousands of odors, but the specific odorant(s) for this receptor may not be comprehensively characterized. Functional and structural studies of olfactory receptors, including OR10Q1, are ongoing, with research focusing on understanding ligand binding and activation mechanisms. While extensive research exists for olfactory receptor function, there are currently no established clinical applications or pharmacological ligands relevant to OR10Q1 beyond its physiological role in olfaction.
