Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily Z member 1 (OR10Z1) is a **G protein-coupled receptor** expressed in the olfactory epithelium[1][3]. Like other olfactory receptors, it spans the cell membrane seven times (7-transmembrane domain) and detects specific odorant molecules binding in the nasal cavity, initiating a G protein-mediated signaling cascade that leads to olfactory perception[1][2][3][4]. In animals such as pigs, related olfactory receptor subtypes can mediate responses to pheromones (e.g., androstenone)[5], but for human OR10Z1, its exact ligand specificity remains largely uncharacterized[1][3]. OR10Z1 is one of hundreds of olfactory receptors contributing to the sense of smell and is not currently recognized as a drug target or biomarker for disease. Its gene is encoded on a single exon and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome[1][3].
