Olfactory receptor family 11 subfamily A member 1 (OR11A1) is a member of the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, leading to the initiation of neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell. These receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and their gene family constitutes the largest in the human genome. OR11A1 is encoded by a single coding-exon gene and participates in the G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals[2][3][5][6][7].
