Overview

Olfactory receptor family 11 subfamily H member 1 (OR11H1) is a human olfactory receptor in the GPCR superfamily, expressed primarily in the olfactory epithelium. It functions as a chemosensory receptor, recognizing distinct odorant molecules and initiating neuronal responses via G protein-coupled signal transduction, allowing for the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR11H1 arises from a single coding-exon gene and possesses seven transmembrane domains that span the cell membrane. Although not currently considered a therapeutic drug target, its functional dysregulation may be implicated in some diseases, and olfactory receptors as a class are being explored for their extranasal roles and possible links to diseases.
