Overview

Olfactory receptor family 11 subfamily H member 12 (OR11H12) is a protein encoded by the human *OR11H12* gene, and belongs to the large olfactory receptor family within the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. It resides in the cell membrane of olfactory sensory neurons, where it interacts with volatile odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium to initiate signal transduction via G protein-mediated pathways. This process triggers neuronal responses that are ultimately perceived as smell. The olfactory receptor family is the largest gene family in the human genome, and its members share a 7-transmembrane domain architecture similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors.
