Olfactory receptor family 11 subfamily N member 1 pseudogene (OR11N1P) is classified as a pseudogene in humans and does not code for a functional protein[1][2][3][4][5][7]. It belongs to the olfactory receptor family, the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which typically function to detect odorant molecules and initiate neuronal responses that allow the perception of smell. However, as a pseudogene, OR11N1P lacks the ability to produce a functional olfactory receptor due to mutations such as frameshifts or nonsense changes that disrupt its coding sequence[1][2][3][4]. Unlike functional olfactory receptors, it does not contribute to signal transduction, is not a therapeutic target, and has no known disease associations or drug interactions. Pseudogenes like OR11N1P are common in large multigene families such as the olfactory receptors because of reduced selective pressure to maintain function in genes that are redundant or no longer confer a fitness advantage[6].
