Olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily C member 4 (OR13C4) is a member of the human olfactory receptor gene family, which encodes G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) structurally characterized by seven transmembrane domains. OR13C4 binds specific odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium and initiates G protein-mediated signal transduction leading to the perception of smell. While primarily expressed in the nose, some olfactory receptors are also present in other tissues and may have additional physiological functions. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, reflecting the diversity of odor detection. Currently, no clinically approved drugs or therapeutics target OR13C4, and its roles outside olfaction (including in disease) remain largely uncharacterized.
