Overview

Olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily C member 7 (OR13C7) is part of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting odorant molecules and initiating neuronal responses for the sense of smell[1][2]. These receptors share a seven-transmembrane domain structure characteristic of neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. However, OR13C7 is *segregating pseudogene* in humans: some people carry a version capable of making a functioning receptor, but in most cases, the encoded protein is predicted to be non-functional[1]. No direct disease associations, pharmacological interactions, or clinical roles have been established for this gene or its protein products.
