Overview
Olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily C member 8 (OR13C8) is a member of the olfactory receptor family of proteins, which are G protein-coupled receptors characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. These receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, triggering neuronal responses that allow perception of smells. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. OR13C8 is sometimes referenced with aliases such as OR37H and OR9-10. While structurally and mechanistically similar to neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, olfactory receptors like OR13C8 are not currently known to have roles in human disease or to interact with therapeutic drugs
