Olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily D member 1 (OR13D1) is a protein coding gene in humans that encodes a member of the large olfactory receptor family, which is responsible for the initial detection of odorant molecules in the nose. These receptors activate a neuronal signaling cascade, triggering the perception of smell. OR13D1 is a G protein-coupled receptor, characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. This gene belongs to the largest gene family in the human genome and operates by converting external chemical stimuli (odorants) into corresponding intracellular signals via G protein-mediated pathways[1][2][4][10]. There is no evidence of direct pharmacological modulation, biomarker usage, or disease association specific to OR13D1.
