Overview

Olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily D member 2 pseudogene (OR13D2P) is a human genomic locus that represents a pseudogene within the olfactory receptor gene family[1]. While functional olfactory receptors are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that detect odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses for the perception of smell, OR13D2P does not encode a functional protein product[1][2]. Pseudogenes like OR13D2P arise due to frameshift or nonsense mutations and generally have no biological function or disease relevance[2]. There are no interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or safety issues, and it is not used as a biomarker. OR13D2P is not a viable therapeutic target[1][2].
