Olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily F member 1 (OR13F1) is a member of the large olfactory receptor superfamily, which enables humans to detect and discriminate odorants. It belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by seven transmembrane domains, and is encoded by a single coding exon gene. OR13F1 is expressed in the olfactory epithelium, where it recognizes specific odorant molecules and initiates the neuronal response leading to the perception of smell through G protein-mediated signaling. While olfactory receptors have broad but selective hydrophobic ligand recognition, their physiological function is focused on sensory transduction with no established disease links or drug interactions. The gene nomenclature is species-specific, and there is no evidence of inaccurate naming, spurious disease claims, or direct therapeutic relevance beyond research into chemosensory signaling
