Olfactory receptor family 14 subfamily A member 2 (OR14A2) is a member of the olfactory receptor family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain architecture similar to that found in neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][5]. OR14A2 is encoded by a single coding-exon gene and functions in the detection and transduction of odorant signals; when ligand (odorant) binding occurs in the nasal epithelium, the receptor triggers a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell[5]. This protein belongs to one of the largest gene families in the human genome and is primarily expressed in olfactory tissues. Like other olfactory receptors, OR14A2 likely plays a role strictly in sensory biology, and there is limited evidence for direct involvement in human disease or for therapeutic modulation by current or investigational drugs[4].
