Olfactory receptor family 14 subfamily C member 36 is a member of the largest gene family in the human genome, encoding a protein with a seven-transmembrane domain typical of G protein-coupled receptors. Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, initiating a neuronal response leading to odor perception. The receptor functions through G protein-mediated signal transduction, ultimately supporting the sense of smell. While functional roles are restricted to olfactory signal transduction, there is emerging evidence that some olfactory receptors may be expressed in extra-nasal tissues, though no disease roles or drug interactions are established for OR14C36 specifically
