Olfactory receptor family 14 subfamily L member 1 (OR14L1) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are a subset of G protein-coupled receptors characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure[3][4]. Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that ultimately leads to the perception of smell[3][4]. These receptors, including OR14L1, are generally responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals, but OR14L1 is classified as a pseudogene in humans, meaning it is not predicted to encode a functional protein[3]. Consequently, it is not considered a drug target, has no known direct biological role in disease, and does not have established small-molecule ligands or clinical utility as a biomarker[3].
