Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AS member 1 pseudogene (OR2AS1P) is a genomic sequence in humans annotated as a pseudogene within the large family of olfactory receptors[3]. Olfactory receptors are typically G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in the detection of odorants, but pseudogenes such as OR2AS1P do not encode functional proteins due to mutations or loss of coding capacity[2]. Human olfactory receptor pseudogenes are numerous and reflect evolutionary redundancy or mutations in genes no longer needed for fitness[2]. Unlike some pseudogenes, there are no known regulatory, functional, or pathological roles for OR2AS1P, and it is not considered a therapeutic target in pharmaceutical or biomarker research[2][3].
