Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AT member 1 pseudogene (OR2AT1P)

Target
OR2AT1P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Olfactory receptor (ancestral classification; inactivated version), Seven transmembrane domain protein, non-functional
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AT member 1 pseudogene (OR2AT1P) is a human gene locus derived from the olfactory receptor gene family 2, subfamily AT, member 1 but has lost protein-coding capability due to genetic changes such as frameshifts or premature stop codons. Pseudogenes like OR2AT1P are generally considered non-functional remnants of ancestral protein-coding genes and do not mediate signal transduction, ligand binding, or play therapeutic roles. They may persist in the genome but do not act as receptors and are not targets for drug development. While rare examples exist of "pseudo-pseudogenes" with atypical activity, there is no evidence that OR2AT1P encodes a functional protein in humans.
