Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily B member 11, or OR2B11, is a protein-coding gene encoding a seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) expressed in the olfactory epithelium. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2B11 interacts with odorant molecules in the nasal cavity to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell. These receptors share structural features with other GPCRs, notably a 7-transmembrane domain architecture, and are responsible for recognizing odorant signals and activating G protein-mediated signal transduction pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family, to which OR2B11 belongs, is the largest in the human genome. Although olfactory receptors have clear biological roles in sensory perception, and their activation mechanisms have been studied via molecular dynamics and structural biology methods, OR2B11 itself is not currently implicated in major disease mechanisms or used pharmacologically as a therapeutic target[3][4][6].
