Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily B member 2 (OR2B2) is a protein-coding gene encoding an olfactory receptor, part of the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)[1][3][9]. These receptors detect odorant molecules in the nose and trigger a neuronal response that enables the perception of smell. OR2B2 is characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure typical of GPCRs, sharing this feature with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. While functionally significant in the context of olfaction, this gene is not known to have direct roles as a therapeutic drug target or in disease[1][9].
