Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily B member 7 pseudogene (OR2B7P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is derived from an ancestral olfactory receptor gene but contains mutations such as premature stop codons or frameshifts that prevent it from being translated into a functional receptor protein[1][3][4]. Olfactory receptor genes typically belong to the G protein-coupled receptor family, responsible for odor detection in the nasal epithelium; however, in humans, a large proportion have mutated into pseudogenes that no longer contribute to the sense of smell[4]. OR2B7P is one such non-functional member, does not produce a protein, and is not involved in therapeutic, diagnostic, or drug interaction contexts.
