Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily C member 3 (OR2C3) is a member of the olfactory receptor family, which are specialized G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the sense of smell by detecting odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium[5][3]. OR2C3 shares a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and operates by recognizing odorant signals that trigger neuronal responses for olfactory perception[5][3]. Olfactory receptor genes, including OR2C3, are single coding-exon genes and constitute the largest gene family in the human genome[5]. Their main biological function is in olfactory sensory signaling; despite being classified as a protein-coding gene for some members, others within related subfamilies may be pseudogenes without functional protein expression[2]. There are no established therapeutic drugs, disease associations, or known safety concerns specific to OR2C3.
