Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily D member 3 (OR2D3) is a human protein encoded by the OR2D3 gene. It is part of the olfactory receptor family, which constitutes the largest group of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in the human genome[2][3][4]. OR2D3 shares the characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure of GPCRs, allowing it to detect odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium and initiate neuronal responses resulting in the perception of smell[2][4][3]. Olfactory receptors, including OR2D3, are primarily responsible for odor recognition and G protein-mediated signal transduction[4][2][3]. There are no known direct links between OR2D3 and specific human diseases or therapeutics, and to date, there are no drugs or diagnostic biomarkers targeting this receptor. The nomenclature for olfactory receptor genes is species-specific and independent across organisms[2][4].
