Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily E member 1 pseudogene (abbreviated OR2E1P) is a *pseudogene* in the human genome that is part of the olfactory receptor gene family. While intact olfactory receptors are G protein-coupled receptors that mediate the detection of odorant molecules, pseudogenes such as OR2E1P contain sequence interruptions (such as premature stop codons or frameshifts) and are not believed to encode functional receptor proteins. The gene is classified as a pseudogene by multiple genomic resources. There is currently no evidence that this pseudogene has a direct function, participates in disease processes, or is a therapeutic target[1][2].
