Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily F member 1 (OR2F1) is a member of the olfactory receptor family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which play a role in detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell. OR2F1 shares the characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure common to GPCRs, and it is responsible for interaction and signal transduction upon binding to odorants. Notably, OR2F1 is a segregating pseudogene in humans, meaning that some individuals possess a functional allele while others have an allele predicted to be non-functional. Its gene family is the largest in the human genome and participates mainly in olfactory signaling pathways[1][3][6][7].
