Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily G member 2 (OR2G2) is a member of the large olfactory receptor (OR) family, which encodes G protein-coupled receptors expressed in the nose and involved in the detection of odorant molecules. OR2G2, like other olfactory receptors, features a canonical seven-transmembrane domain structure and initiates neuronal signaling upon binding odorants to mediate the sense of smell. It is encoded by a single-exon gene on chromosome 1 and plays a role in the diversity of the human olfactory repertoire. While ORs in general may participate in non-olfactory processes, OR2G2's primary documented function is olfactory signal transduction. There are no known therapeutic agents, biomarkers, or specific disease associations attributed to OR2G2.
