Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily G member 3 (OR2G3) is a member of the human olfactory receptor gene superfamily, which encodes proteins responsible for detecting odorant molecules. OR2G3, like other olfactory receptors, is a G protein-coupled receptor embedded in the plasma membrane, typically possessing a canonical seven-transmembrane domain architecture. These receptors activate intracellular signaling cascades upon odorant binding, mediating the sense of smell by triggering action potentials in sensory neurons. Olfactory receptors are expressed not only in the olfactory epithelium but can also be found in select non-olfactory tissues and, for some family members, may be involved in ectopic signaling in cancer and other biological processes. OR2G3 itself has not been characterized as a specific drug target, nor is there direct evidence of its role in disease states so far.
