Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily J member 1 (OR2J1) is a protein encoded by the *OR2J1* gene in humans. It belongs to the class of G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting volatile chemicals (odorants) and initiating a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smells[3][5]. OR2J1 exhibits the canonical seven-transmembrane domain structure of GPCRs and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome[3][5]. Notably, OR2J1 is a segregating pseudogene: some individuals possess a functional allele encoding an active receptor, while others carry mutations rendering it non-functional. No clinical relevance, disease association, or drug interaction is known for this receptor, and it does not serve as a biomarker or therapeutic target in contemporary medicine[2][3][5].
