Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily L member 13 (OR2L13) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) encoded by the OR2L13 gene in humans[1][5][8]. OR2L13 is part of the large olfactory receptor gene family whose members are primarily responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose, triggering neuronal responses for the perception of smell[1][3][5][8]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2L13 has a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure and transduces extracellular signals via G proteins[1][3][5][8]. Recent studies have revealed non-olfactory roles for OR2L13, including modulation of platelet reactivity under mechanical stress and limiting progression of abdominal aortic aneurysms[3]. Associations with other diseases—including autism spectrum disorder—have been reported but are not mechanistically established[5].
