Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily L member 3 (OR2L3) is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes an olfactory receptor, which is part of a large family of G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses leading to the perception of smell. OR2L3 shares a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. It functions in the olfactory signaling pathway, transducing odorant binding into intracellular signaling through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. OR2L3 has also been associated with atypical choroid plexus papilloma, although its mechanistic role in disease or as a therapeutic target outside of olfaction is not well-defined[5][1].
