Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily M member 7 (OR2M7) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G-protein-coupled receptors responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nasal cavity and initiation of the neuronal signal for smell perception[2][3]. OR2M7 shares a seven-transmembrane domain structure characteristic of GPCRs. In humans, OR2M7 genetic variants influence individual abilities to detect particular odors, such as the sulfurous metabolites excreted in urine after eating asparagus. There is no current evidence supporting a therapeutic or disease-related targeting of this receptor; it is involved mainly in sensory perception. Polymorphisms near or within OR2M7 are a biomarker for sensitivity to certain food-related odors[1][3].
