Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily S member 2 (OR2S2) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene family, which encodes G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell[1][3][4][7]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2S2 possesses a 7-transmembrane domain structure and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome. OR2S2 may be a segregating pseudogene in some individuals, meaning some alleles encode a functional receptor, while others encode a non-functional protein[1]. Although olfactory receptors share structural features and signaling pathways with pharmacologically important GPCRs, OR2S2 is not known to play a role in disease or serve as a therapeutic target[1][3][4].
