Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 1 (OR2T1) is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed primarily in the olfactory epithelium, where it binds specific odorant molecules to initiate neuronal signaling that results in the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2T1 shares a seven-transmembrane domain structure and is encoded by a single exon gene; this family is the largest in the human genome. Downstream signaling involves G-protein activation, leading to cAMP formation, ion channel activation, and neuronal depolarization. There is minimal evidence for roles outside olfaction or established therapeutic/drug targeting activity.
