Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 12 (OR2T12) is a protein encoded by the OR2T12 gene located on chromosome 1. This receptor is part of the largest gene family in the human genome and is responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, initiating a G protein-coupled signal transduction pathway that results in the perception of smell. OR2T12, like other olfactory receptors, has a canonical structure characterized by seven transmembrane domains, which is shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][5]. Olfactory receptors recognize a diverse array of odorant molecules, and activation leads to neuronal depolarization and information relay to the brain. Although primarily involved in olfaction, many olfactory receptors are also expressed in non-olfactory tissues and may have additional physiological roles, though no specific disease associations or therapeutic targeting of OR2T12 has been described[5].
